What data we collect

TasteBud collects the following data to personalize your experience:

• Ratings and reviews — your 1-10 scores and optional comments on movies, TV shows, books, and games
• Preferences — streaming services, gaming platforms, content interests
• Taste profile — genre scores, decade preferences, and taste insights generated from your ratings
• Chat messages — conversations with Bud, our AI companion
• Favorites and watchlist — items you save for later or mark as favorites
• Account info — email address and display name (if you create an account)

How we use your data

• Generating personalized recommendations across movies, TV, books, and games
• Building your taste profile and Taste DNA
• Powering the AI companion (Bud) to give relevant suggestions
• Improving our recommendation algorithms
• Syncing your data across devices when you're signed in

What we don't do

• We never sell your personal data to third parties
• We never share your taste data with advertisers for targeting outside our app
• We never use your data for purposes unrelated to your TasteBud experience

AI disclosure

TasteBud uses artificial intelligence (Google Gemini) to analyze your taste patterns and generate personalized recommendations. Your taste data is processed by AI solely within the TasteBud service to improve your experience. We do not use your data to train external AI models.

Data storage

Your data is stored securely using Supabase (PostgreSQL) with row-level security. Data is encrypted in transit via HTTPS. Local data is stored on your device using AsyncStorage.

Data deletion

You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from the app settings. Upon deletion, all your ratings, preferences, taste profile, chat history, and personal data will be permanently removed from our servers within 30 days.

Third-party services

TasteBud uses the following third-party services:

• Supabase — authentication and database
• Google Gemini — AI recommendations and chat
• TMDB — movie and TV metadata
• Open Library — book metadata
• RAWG — game metadata

Children's privacy

TasteBud is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
